“When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” Alexander Graham Bell
As doors across our community have closed, East Tennessee has responded as it always does in times of crisis – with compassion, determination, and a willingness to serve. We are Volunteers in the very best sense of the word.
Opportunity Knox is an online community resource that connects East Tennesseans to practical aid, stories of inspiration, and opportunities to thrive and give back during COVID-19 and beyond.
A collaborative effort from organizations across the region, it is a place where we can see doors that are open.
Opportunity Knox is about finding help, sharing hope, and connecting with others in simple, impactful ways to work together to rebuild and grow the community.
This is our time.
Opportunity knocks.
Why are we doing this?
Because there are amazing organisations, and amazing people, doing amazing things for our community.
The mission of Opportunity Knox is to connect you with the support, resources, and the deep sense of community needed to be healthy and successful during COVID-19 and beyond.
Take a penny if it helps, leave a penny if you can, and we’ll all get through this together.
What can you give?
Check in with someone daily. You know how to use Zoom or Facetime by now. See how they’re doing!
Shop local. Now more than ever, small businesses need our support. Let them know you care. Buy their goods, order their food. And tip well - the folks still bringing you all of this stuff are among the bravest out there.
If at all possible, stay home. If not for your sake, then for everyone else’s. But don’t stay alone. Join in a virtual meetup or event and find some friendly faces looking to see you!
Share your small joys.
Now more than ever, our community needs support and encouragement. Tell your story of hope in the face of adversity, or share something that made you smile. No joy is too small.

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
- Maya Angelou
